Git ‘er Done!

“Sand Piper Parade” 8 x 10 Pastel on Sanded Paper
Prints of this painting are available here.

I have a hard time treating my art as my job.

Hmmm.  I wonder why that is… Could it be that I work from home and not a studio outside of the house.  So in other words, my kitchen, laundry room, and every little chore and errand is right here screaming for my attention.

I have tried everything, and I mean everything I can think of to not let it distract me.  Not gonna happen.  I need to face it…it is here…I work from home…I will always feel guilty for going into the studio with dishes in the sink and laundry needing to be folded.

So today I tried something new.  I got up early.  I mean reaaaaalll early!!! My hubby got up at 4:30 to head into NYC.  That’s 4:30 in the a.m.!!  Whaaat? That’s insane!  I haven’t gotten up that early since I was in nursing clinicals.  I hated it then.  Going out the door when it is cold and dark and no one on the road.  But today I have a head cold and didn’t feel like laying in bed feeling gross, so I got up and got going.

You know what? I kinda liked it.

I got so much done!  I showered, fed the dog, walked the dog, cooked tonights dinner, did laundry, emptied dishwasher and cleaned up breakfast dishes, went to the food store/pharmacy, stopped in KMart, and stopped at the postal store to ship a painting….all by 9:00 a.m.!

I actually went into my studio by 9:30 in the morning!!! That never happens!! I am usually still at the park, walking at that time.  Then I get chores and errands done. I never get to my studio before 11!!

It was so refreshing to go from concept to finishing the painting “Sand Piper Parade” in one day, with time to spare!!

Today, I decided to Git ‘er Done, and Git ‘er Done I did!

first! We are on a mini vacation and in San Francisco…Living in south east our bodies and brains are up and about 3 hours before the world here! WOW, could we get some things done if we could do this at home…I think you are on to something! You are a wonderful student of life….you see what you are looking at and intrepret it beautifully. I am not young…but am young at being an artist…I just started dabbling with pastels and find it beautiful and difficult! Worse than Watercolor!
I dont see a ref here of DVDs or workshops…………hummm… sure wish I had! Time to get moving! I will keep an eye out for you and your adventures! You really create some beautiful eye candy! Thanks

I hope you had a great time in Ca…I’ve never been but hope to get there soon! Now if I can keep up getting up early, then I would be on to something….haha
I haven’t done any teaching at is something I have rolling around in my mind for someday. If you have any questions or want to chat about pastels, email me, or comment on the blog, I would love to help you!
I’m not sure watercolors are worse than pastels…watercolors scare me, if you have any tips about them I’d love to hear them!
